Wonderwall was written by Noel Gallagher and by his brother Liam Gallagher. It was released in 1995 on Oasis’s second studio album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory. It’s one of Oasis’s biggest hits and in 2020 became the first 90’s song to hit one billion streams on Spotify.

We also have The Beatles Fingerstyle Guitar Tab Collection that you can download now for free. It includes our versions of Yesterday, Let It Be, Something and Blackbird. There is an easy and full version of each song so you can start playing your favourite Beatles songs straightaway.

How To Play Wonderwall Fingerstyle

1. Learn The Chords To Wonderwall Fingerstyle

It’ll help if you know the chords to Wonderwall before you learn my fingerstyle arrangement. Your hand will be familiar with some of the shapes you’ll be using and it’s a fun way to start playing the song.

All the chords are written above the tab on my fingerstyle version and there is a chord chart at the top of the tab.

2. Start With The Beginner Version Of Wonderwall Fingerstyle

Unless you’re confident with fingerstyle guitar it’s always best to start with the beginner versions of my songs. They’re simplified versions of my full arrangements and will help you move to the full version later.

3. No Capo, No Problem

My fingerstyle arrangement of Wonderwall is written to be played with a capo on the second fret. However, all this does is change the key of the same to match the original recording.

If you don’t have a capo you can play the song without one and it will still sound like the song. I actually prefer the sound of this fingerstyle arrangement played without a capo.

4. Which Fingers To Use On The Verse Of Wonderwall

During the verse of Wonderwall I have found the best fingers to use are the second finger on the third fret on the E string. The first finger on the second fret on the G string and the third finger on the third fret on the B string.

5. How To Play The Wonderwall Fingerstyle Chorus

The section is tricky because you have to switch between playing the melody and the chords. There are two main ways to do this.

Firstly, you can strum the chords using your fingers and thumb in a similar way to if you were playing the chords in the normal song. But, you will need to switch back to a fingerstyle technique very quickly.

Secondly, you can pluck the chords using your fingers and thumb in a fingerstyle technique. I personally find the second way better.
